Culture...
The first picture is 100% genuine...This is apparently a ritual performed as part of a village festival where the lucky recipient is hooked up (as shown plus hooks to his legs) and swung from huge bamboo sticks on the back of a truck. They perform this as an act of thanksgiving if a particular prayer has been answered (so I'm told anyway). Alledgedly they do not feel a thing as they are in a trance like state, and neither do they bleed or scar (they rub hot ash into the wounds). Either way it was a shock to finally discover what had been holding up the traffic for so long...!

UPON MY RETURN...SRI LANKA Pt 2

Didn't get a chance to put the Sri Lanka photos on. Sorry!!! Had a great time in Vegas and Hawaii and took loads of photos (even had to buy another memory card out there!) which I will post in due course...Meanwhile back at the ranch we are once again fully broadbanded up so (fairly) normal service will be resumed!

I will be away for the next fortnight...Off to sunny Las Vegas and Hawaii for some R&R. Have decided to put a series of shots of my last big trip which was Sri Lanka before the Tsunami of last year. It really is a beautiful country but like most, has it's troubles. The people made us feel so welcome and we learned so much...
I will be checking in when I get a chance between winning a fortune and drowning my sorrows!

These were taken last week on my "new" walk to the car to start the journey home. You can see the Spire from most parts of the City, but when you're here everyday you never notice it so I've given it some extra appreciation recently...
